Training Opportunities to Community Care Providers:

 
St Coletta recognizes that other community agencies providing services to individuals with developmental disabilities, elderly and other challenges also have the need to provide quality training to their own direct support providers. St. Coletta offers state approved CBRF trainings in Fire Safety, Administration of Medications, Dietary Needs, American Red Cross CPR and First Aid, Standard Universal Precautions, Abuse and Neglect, Client Rights, Personal Care and Introduction to DD population to area community agencies in Jefferson, WI and DHS Illinois Approved Training Curriculums in Illinois.
 
For a minimal of fee, community agencies can register for classes on our website or contact Staff Development directly to register their employees in WI and the HR Coordinator or our website for training in the Illinois Programs.

This course is designed to train participants to recognize, report, and follow up on exposures to infectious materials, with emphasis on preventing exposure incidences. This course will give participants the knowledge of how blood borne pathogens are spread, practicing good hygiene, and the proper cleaning and disinfection of equipment and supplies. To minimize the risk of infection, it is important that everyone follow Standard Precautions.                  
 
Confidentiality/HIPAA- In the 21st century, you are often reminded about how important it is to keep private information confidential. In recent years, the federal Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, better known as HIPAA, has changed the way health information is handled and conveyed, but that is only a small part of confidentiality. Confidentiality applies to many other areas of the services you provide.

Management and Administration of Medications

Medication safety is everyone's responsibility. Staff assisting with medications must understand and follow established safety guidelines in order to ensure the well-being of the people they support.
When providing services to people with developmental disabilities, handling medication is an important part of the job. Staff roles may include providing a physician with information about allergies or current medications, assisting someone with taking medications or monitoring for side effects or adverse reactions. Whatever their roles, staff are responsible for ensuring the safety of the people they support.   Learn about avoiding potential or actual medications errors. This class is based on and written to meet guidelines for CBRF Rule 83.

Abuse and neglect is a harsh reality that affects the lives of many people with developmental disabilities. Statistics indicate that people with developmental disabilities are 4-10 times more likely to be victims of abuse or neglect than are people without developmental disabilities. Therefore, it is important that workers in this field know how to prevent, recognize the signs of, report any suspicions of, and assist the victims of abuse and neglect. Staff responsibilities regarding suspected abuse, neglect and misappropriation of property.

Class also covers aging and dementia and the care needs for people, as they grow older.   Highlights history of services, why and how services change, and current trends such as self-advocacy, person centered planning, and self-determination. With an overview of diagnostic criteria and highlights of care needs for particular populations- Aging and Dementia, etc. You will have a working knowledge of the history, general needs, and support approaches needed to effectively work with people with developmental disabilities. Exhibit the attitudes needed to succeed in supporting people with developmental disabilities, including a greater awareness of boundaries and respectful ways to approach individuals with disabilities and have an understanding of both the general and specific services offered to meet the needs of people with developmental disabilities.
(PART TWO): an overview of diagnostic criteria and highlights of care needs for particular populations.    
 
Seizures: According to the Epilepsy Foundation of America, epilepsy is a physical condition that occurs when there is a sudden, brief change in how the brain works. When brain cells are not working properly, a person's consciousness, movement or actions may be altered for a short time. These physical changes are called epileptic seizures. Epilepsy is therefore sometimes called a seizure disorder. Learn symptoms and proper skills on what to do when someone has a seizure.
 
 
Behavior Strategies: Mandt Series 1

We discuss how behavior serves as a form of communication, what a person's behavior may mean, and how staff interactions can impact an individual's behavior. There are 3 part series to this class. Based on Policy and Procedures for behavior intervention and incorporating verbal escalation continuum proactively with dignity and respect of the individuals involved. 
To provide skills and techniques to recognize and respond to behavior in a crisis situation.

Diabetic Training

There is no cure for diabetes. The immediate goals are to stabilize your blood sugar and eliminate the symptoms of high blood sugar. The long-term goals of treatment are to prolong life, relieve symptoms, and prevent long-term complications such as heart disease and kidney failure. Basic diabetes management skills will help prevent the need for emergency care. After you learn the basics of diabetes care, learn how the disease can cause long-term health problems and the best ways to prevent these problems. People with diabetes need to review and update their knowledge, because new research and improved ways to treat diabetes are constantly being developed.   This class will cover glucometer testing, insulin pen deliveries, hypoglycemic protocol and carb counting.
