2021 Ted Behncke on NBC15 News

Ted and the Hood family were interviewed yesterday about the State Funding Caregiver Crisis in Wisconsin.  St. Coletta has been advocating for better reimbursement rates in Wisconsin since 2016.  This interview is another step in this process towards getting the funding initiatives passed and approved in the state budget. We respectfully urge everyone to reach out to their legislators to gain support to Pass the Family Care, Caregiver Funding Initiative.

What is the message?

It is always best to put things in your own words, tell your personal story about caring for individuals with disabilities and provide your contact information, especially if you live in the district represented.

  • Must include this Pass the Family Care, Caregiver Funding Initiative & the Minimum Rate Bands recommended by the Governor’s Task Force on Caregiving.
  • DSP’s provide respectful and safe, quality of life for individuals with developmental disabilities
  • DSP’s provide this service during COVID at great risk to themselves and their families
  • Wages provided by State funding are $10.50 and have been for 12 years – NO INCREASE
  • State employees enjoyed increase in wages of 1%-3% in most of the last 12 years
  • St. Coletta of WI provides the same level of care as nursing homes and nursing homes are receiving the bulk of the media coverage and State funding.
  • We care for the individuals and their families and don’t know where they will receive services if providers keep closing i.e. Lutheran Social Services, Bethesda.
