John Thomas Hauenstein, affectionately known as Tom, passed away peacefully on August 31, 2024, at the age of 84. Born on September 23, 1939, Tom’s journey through life was marked by kindness, a trait that defined him in every role he played.  Tom’s early years were spent under the nurturing guidance of his loving parents, Grace and Ralph W. Hauenstein.  His parents, along with his siblings Mary Heleen and Ralph D., nephew Timothy, brother-in-law Gerald L. Stahl, greeted him at life’s end.  Tom’s childhood was filled with fond memories, a testament to the close-knit family that surrounded him. His presence will be deeply missed by his surviving family, particularly by his sister-in-law Carolyn and the nine nieces and nephews who cherished the summers and holidays spent under the watchful and caring eyes of their Uncle Tom.  For 78 remarkable years, Tom resided with the loving care and support of St. Coletta of Wisconsin, a special place that became his home and sanctuary.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, September 21, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Stephen Catholic Church, 740 Gladstone Drive SE, East Grand Rapids, MI 49506.
